For the record: I’m NOT selling Gucci watches, Prada handbags, or cheap pharmaceuticals.
A blast from the past. I received an e-mail the other day saying that there was a comment on our blog. Not this one, but our previous website. Interestingly, there were over 100 hits from the south of India with ‘comments’ posted on articles that read like this:
“It is an interesting comment with which to agree, one perhaps many. Furthermore, if to be is the argument true, please consider Prada handbag. Or handbag of luxury quality is cheap for legal purchasing on my website. Thank you for the consideration my wonderful friendly. Our discussion is fully delightful.”
Really, who do these people think they are fooling? For those of you still reading our old blog, Apologies if you were duped and your new Gucci handbag is actually a Primark cast-off coming apart at the seams.
To the spammer: if you’re going to con anybody, some work on your English might be necessary. The Nigerian who told everybody on my behalf that I was lost in Lagos and needed money sent to me via Western Union was more convincing (which isn’t saying much).
It was amusing at first, but when I had to individually delete over 60 of these spam comments it became a bit tedious.
A good thing to come out of this unsolicited advertising on our old blog was that it led me down memory lane – read posts penned four years ago. Four years. Has it really been that long? Rereading some of these stories has again confirmed how important our time in Athens was in preparing us for leading the ministry in Glasgow. There is also a sense of sadness, as the ministry in Greece is still very close to our hearts. It also highlighted the importance of context; while similarities exist between most of ITeams refugee ministry, the situation and culture of the ‘host’ country has a huge bearing on the shape of ministry. Emma’s blog about the difficulties a clothing giveaway in Athens seems totally foreign in the Glasgow context.
The old blog is worth a look if you want to reminisce with me. It’s also a testament to how God has led us to where we are now.
