“I only survive with the church”
This video has been out nearly two years now, but the issue still exists. Many of the people who come to the St Rollox drop-ins, even some volunteers, have stories similar to the ones you will hear in this short video by Refugee Action:
Emma and our teammates the Cottrells are partnering with local churches and other concerned Christians about how we might respond to this crisis in a distinctly Christlike way. There is an interesting line where the woman says, “I only survive with the church.” In our experience, and to its great credit, the church has been at the forefront of caring for those who are most marginalised. My friend from Rwanda once told me that while he was destitute for years, “If it wasn’t for my friends at the church, I would probably be dead. Really, they helped me to survive.” He was speaking not only of the practical support, but the social and spiritual support, receiving prayer. However, we believe that we could be more strategic and cooperative in our response. We have a vision to have something in place before next winter.
> Pray for those who are left destitute.
> Pray for our team as we look into practical ways to offer shelter, safety, and spiritual support for those in greatest need.
