International Haggises
I bumped into one of Emma's Algerian friends while I was collecting food for the destitution programme last week. I was invited the launch of a newly published cookbook -- about types of haggis from around the world. The humble haggis, viewed as quintessentially Scottish and oft (unfairly in my mind) mocked, is actually shared by many cultures around the world. Dynamic cultural equivalents are to be found in the most unexpected of places.

The book launch should be a celebration for these women who worked hard on the project, but it comes rather with a sense of sadness. One of the ladies who was very influential in the women's group that collected the recipes died last year. She was also a well loved volunteer at St Rollox -- some of you might remember me writing about it. The family, and particularly her husband, have found this to be a very difficult time and the anniversary of her death is bound to add to their experience of loss and sadness. Please keep this family in your prayers.
