Why destitution?
I know that we’ve been talking and writing a lot about “destitution” recently and how we’re trying to show Christ’s love to those in this situation (e.g. through the Night Shelter, food store, bus ticket provision). This leads to many sensible questions: who are these destitute asylum seekers and why are they destitute? Why can’t they receive support or housing? Are these people who are in the country illegally?
These are good questions. Destitution amongst asylum seekers is a complex issue and can happen for a number of different reasons... I noticed that the Refugee Survival Trust have put together this helpful animated video that explains the issue and difficulties that people face, in only three minutes! Have a look:

That was a great little video ... it reveals how individuals & families can be completely frustrated ... and then scared and helpless in dealing with bureaucracy (the system)! Thanks for sharing!
