Springburn has been the focus of much media attention lately, especially with the resignation of long-standing MP Michael Martin and the upcoming by-election. It seems that North East Glasgow is viewed as a microcosm of the major issues facing urban Scotland: unemployment, long-term illness, anti-social behaviour, drugs and alcohol addiction, and speculation about the weakening of the Labour Party in its heartland.
